48 years ago the W/NP "Sewing Centers" were initiated as training opportunities for women in Nicaragua. The Sewing Centers transitioned to the "Learning Centers" we know today. This post from Cedro Galán, Gracias A Dios Learning Center illustrates the initial concept of how representatives from each Learning Center come to the monthly meetings and enrichment courses offered at the W/NP office in Managua, and then take back what they learn to their community. "We are grateful for the special visit of Professor Zaraina Director of the Learning Center of Puerto Cabeza and Professor of Plastic Art where they shared their knowledge in the preparation of Coconut Bread and Bomm Bread to our students of the Learning Center Thanks to God.
At the end we had exquisite results where the students happily expressed the new learning acquired by Professor Zaraina. She also taught us to do some recesses with natural plants to cure some diseases and gave us some motivational tips for new business ventures for women of Cedro Galán.
I feel very happy for these cultural encounters with other Learning Centers.
I want to thank the Appleton Committee in Wisconsin for the donation of a Blender to our Learning Center that will be very useful for the classes to be taught. Thank you"

Zaraina, coordinator of the Learning Center in Puerto Cabezas, recently taught 2 baking classes at the June Lemke Learning Center while she was in Managua. The first class was making Cassava and Malanga Bread, followed by Pati, a traditional spicy pastry in the Caribbean and also Pambon, which would translate to "Bun Bread" or Black bread.

In 2008, Nicaraguan sports reporter Iván Antonio Centeno Padilla came to Wisconsin as part of a W/NP sports project, today (starting about minute 7 in the video link below) Iván reports on Friday's press conference announcing the legal status of the Nicaraguan Federation of American Football with FENIFA President Eduardo Cordoba Samayoa.
